Selle SMP Identification

I've become curious because I have seen little variations in the same models of saddles that I've purchased over the years. Some have 'Selle' in white, some open lettering, some all black. The 'Lite 209' I currently favor has font variations at times.

I assume this is down to slight changes over the years, or OEM models, or...well, I shouldn't assume.

Is there any way to identify more specific information by these differences?

I figured some SMP fan would have a website dedicated to these things, but no luck so far.

I don't think any of the saddles I've had have been counterfeit, so that's not a concern in my question.
